Thorns

i was a rose
that lost its thorns,
when you chose me
and i blossomed for you
and only you

i opened up my leaves,
and welcomed you
as you plucked me
from the ground

i rested in my vase
waiting to be watered
and you showered me
at first

but then
i began to wilt,
and lost my beauty,
lost my colour,
and you stopped loving me

i tried,
coming back to life
but i was so sick, you see

oh, how you broke me
ripped my petals,
and cut me down
like an unwanted weed
in your perfect garden

i lost my thorns,
once
but i won't make that mistake again
